Reconstructing the epigraphic corpus of an Attic deme entails a series of challenges that are closely tied to the specific historical and archaeological context. The case of Halai Aixonides is particularly revealing: some inscriptions have entered private and museum collections, often lacking precise documentation of their original findspots, making it all the more difficult to reintegrate them into the deme context. The task is further complicated by the homonymy with the deme of Halai Araphenides. In the cases explored in this paper only a meticulous study of the provenance and subsequent movements of the inscriptions, supported by evidence such as prosopographical data, can enable a reliable attribution to the deme, with the broader aim of reconstructing a documentary corpus as complete as possible.

Abstract
Reconstructing the epigraphic corpus of an Attic deme entails a series of challenges that are closely tied to the specific historical and archaeological context. The case of Halai Aixonides is particularly revealing: some inscriptions have entered private and museum collections, often lacking precise documentation of their original findspots, making it all the more difficult to reintegrate them into the deme context. The task is further complicated by the homonymy with the deme of Halai Araphenides. In the cases explored in this paper only a meticulous study of the provenance and subsequent movements of the inscriptions, supported by evidence such as prosopographical data, can enable a reliable attribution to the deme, with the broader aim of reconstructing a documentary corpus as complete as possible.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
