This work examines this arrogant and ingenious venture through three perspectives: its connection with the diplomatic ceremonial, the history of its presence in repertoires of anecdotes and other texts, and finally the variations in a series of comedies (Lope de Vega, Mira of Amescua, Calderón).

Abstract
