In "Les voyages de Merry Sisal", a novel by Gisèle Pineau published in 2015, the Guadeloupean writer tells the inner journey of two women, a French of African descent and a Haitian, victims of sexual and psychological abuse and of the prejudices diffused against them in an universe where social and racial inequalities persist. By focusing on the condition of Haitian immigrants, Pineau adopts a profoundly critical approach towards the stereotypes and xenophoby that are deeply rooted in French Overseas Territories. This essay shows how Black immigrant women in Pineau's work, thanks to female solidarity, react to inequalities instead of being devastated by hatred and violence. By doing so, they manage to fight back against prejudice and overcome their respective traumas.
