This paper examines the settlement of the religious order of San Francesco di Paola on the Venetian island of San Giorgio in Alga. After thesuppression ofthe previous order in 1668, the Venetian Republic sold the island to the Minimsrecovering part of its finances spent on the Cretan War. This case study shows howthe order resiliently tried to keep the island despite the number of difficulties it faced from the very beginning, forcing the friars to leave this convent after only 30 years.
