Within the framework of the ‘documentary turn’ theorized in Spanish-American literature since the end of the 20th century, this essay investigates how Mexican narrative is part of this aesthetic, in the variant that stretches the limits with chronicle and investigative journalism. By analysing "Charras" by Hernán Lara Zavala (1990) and "Una novela criminal" by Jorge Volpi (2018), which share an explicit relationship with the journalistic-judicial document to meditate on the failures of Mexican justice, we aim to demonstrate the aesthetic and political role that documents play as materiality to unmask and question institutional violence.

Abstract
Within the framework of the ‘documentary turn’ theorized in Spanish-American literature since the end of the 20th century, this essay investigates how Mexican narrative is part of this aesthetic, in the variant that stretches the limits with chronicle and investigative journalism. By analysing "Charras" by Hernán Lara Zavala (1990) and "Una novela criminal" by Jorge Volpi (2018), which share an explicit relationship with the journalistic-judicial document to meditate on the failures of Mexican justice, we aim to demonstrate the aesthetic and political role that documents play as materiality to unmask and question institutional violence.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
