The paper provides an analysis of Filippo Beroaldo senior’s De felicitate, one of his ‘major’ orations printed in Bologna in 1495. After a preliminary survey on the author and his opera, the oration is read with respect to the humanistic debate on human happiness. Then, some selected extracts of the orations are proposed (both in latin and in the italian traduction). The classical sources, the potential interconnections with other contemporary works and the roles of these extracts in Beroaldo’s thought are discussed. Overall, the paper is an introduction to this oration and a clarification of Beroaldo’s philosophical position about the issues discussed in his work.
