The text is a survey on contemporary Chinese fiction from the so-called "Culture fever" period to the first decade of our century. The approach is not a historical one, because the reflection on Chinese fiction is more focused on the evolution of themes and styles, related to the social and cultural background of a rapidly developing China. It includes both mainstream and more marginal writers, in order to provide a better and wider understanding of recent literary phenomena in China.

Abstract
