Especially in Verona, the period between the last decades of the seventeenth century and the early years of the eighteenth century marked the flowering of galleries of paintings, including works by ancient and contemporary authors, both among noble families and among the most wealthy mercants. An accurate account can be read in the famous book published in 1718 by the aristocrat Bartolomeo dal Pozzo. Antonio Balestra, author of a painting in the most prestigious of these galleries, that of Ercole Giusti at Santi Apostoli, in the same year sent an important work to Raimondo Buonaccorsi, in Macerata, for his Gallery of Aeneid. Of the latter there are drawings, copies, variations and engravings.
