Among the definers of the picaresque novel, its modern and urban character are key, and for that reason this work aims to consider the importance of urban culture in the construction of narrative relating to picaros. This perspective makes it possible to appreciate that the picaresque novel presents the Horatian topos as at once a kind of village contempt and courtly praise, having elements in common with other, similar modalities such as courtesan discourse and military autobiography.

Abstract
Among the definers of the picaresque novel, its modern and urban character are key, and for that reason this work aims to consider the importance of urban culture in the construction of narrative relating to pícaros. This perspective makes it possible to appreciate that the picaresque novel presents the Horatian topos as at once a kind of village contempt and courtly praise, having elements in common with other, similar modalities such as courtesan discourse and military autobiography.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
