El artículo presenta los resultados de un experimento realizado en las Universidades de Trieste y de Chieti (Italia) orientado a estudiar la relación entre competencia traductora y el uso de recursos informáticos. Para llevar a cabo el presente estudio se ha contado con la participación de dos grupos de estudiantes: uno especializado en Traducción (Trieste) y otro con limitada formación en Traducción (Chieti). Ambos realizaron una prueba de traducción directa y otra de traducción inversa, y contestaron un cuestionario final sobre el razonamiento seguido para resolver algunos puntos problemáticos planteados en las traducciones. Los resultados sugieren algunas tendencias significativas relativas al proceso de toma de decisiones, y a la relación entre calidad de la traducción y los recursos empleados para realizar dicha traducción. En particular, se ha observado que el uso de recursos informáticos no compensa ni la diferencia de nivel en las competencias lingüísticas y conocimientos especializados ni la menor formación en traducción por parte del segundo grupo. El artículo concluye con algunas consideraciones didácticas para aportar posibles soluciones en las áreas más problemáticas que se identificaron durante el experimento.

In particular, data suggest that ICT resources do not compensate the gap in language skills, specialised knowledge and specialised training in translation. The final discussion proposes a number of classroom considerations that address the problems detected in the experiment.
