The essay is concerned with the long history of the numerous openings of Petrach's pink marble tomb at Arquà Petrarca, the small village in which the great poet was buried in the year 1374. A series of exumations: from that of 1630, when a black friar broke the tomb and took some bones, to the most recent happened in occasion of the 700th anniversary of the poet's birth in 2003 by a team of the university of Padua.
