This paper considers the Jose ́ Emilio Pacheco's first short story "La sangre de Medusa", published in 1958 in the "Cuadernos del Unicornio" collection. The study analyzes the mechanisms of classical myth's deconstruction and reformulation and it pays special attention to Medusa as a key image and whose absence marks the narrative construction. So that the text reflects the problems and limits about verbal language, that come to light in modern times.
