Megara Hyblaia and Selinous, with their metropolis-colony relationship, exhibit notable convergences in their natural environments and in their urban development. Besides, both rightfully stand as references for the study of ancient urbanism and, when put together, they offer a unique evolutionary perspective: two early colonies and future thriving poleis, one being funded by the other one century later. This article presents a synthesis of the results of three interdisciplinary projects carried out between 2016 and 2025 by the author. By exploring in both cities, the concrete floors, the construction stone and the quarries, the energetic expenditures and the demography of the first migrants’ generations, several discrepancies and similarities in their urban development could be outlined.
