This contribution aims to assess the ancient demography of Megara Hyblaia and Selinous. The earliest generations, in particular, played a genuinely foundational role in several crucial construction programs (housing, street layouts , and fortifications). In this context, Architectural Energetics provides a valuable framework for assessing the human cost of construction projects. However, human resources can only be properly interpreted when situated within their broader demographic context. In this brief study, maximum population estimates are best placed at approximately 8,000 - 10,000 inhabitants for Megara and 11,000 - 13,000 for Selinous. The contingents of first migrants likely ranged between 300 and 500 individuals. Ultimately, a population calculation method is proposed, based on several parameters (demographic growth rates, initial population sizes, and additional migrant groups). Assuming that 50% of the population constituted the workforce, approximately 1,000 individuals could have participated in major construction programs 50 years after the foundations of Megara and Selinous, while between 600 and 800 were already active some 25 years after their establishment.

Abstract
Assuming that 50% of the population constituted the workforce, approximately 1,000 individuals could have participated in major construction programs 50 years after the foundations of Megara and Selinous, while between 600 and 800 were already active some 25 years after their establishment.I documenti in ARCA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
