Abstract

Venice, the ‘city of water’, with its lagoon archipelago – which has always been heavily shaped by human activity – is today a complex and unique ecosystem from an environmental, social and cultural perspective; on the one hand, it symbolises the climate crisis, whilst on the other, it is attempting to cope with its consequences, as numerous recent publications on the subject have highlighted. This article focuses on the artistic and curatorial practices that are most actively engaged with environmental and social issues in Venice, particularly those of the last two decades, which can be defined as ‘art commons’.
