This article explores the historical connections between Italian neo-fascist organizations—specifically Avanguardia Nazionale and Ordine Nuovo—and the Chilean military dictatorship led by Augusto Pinochet. Drawing on declassified intelligence archives and judicial investigations, the study examines how these transnational networks collaborated through the DINA secret service, participating in covert operations, propaganda, and political violence, including the 1975 assassination attempt on Christian Democratic leader Bernardo Leighton in Rome. It also highlights how Chile subsequently served as a safe haven and operational base for Italian neo-fascist fugitives seeking refuge from domestic prosecution during the strategy of tension.

Abstract
This article explores the historical connections between Italian neo-fascist organizations—specifically Avanguardia Nazionale and Ordine Nuovo—and the Chilean military dictatorship led by Augusto Pinochet. Drawing on declassified intelligence archives and judicial investigations, the study examines how these transnational networks collaborated through the DINA secret service, participating in covert operations, propaganda, and political violence, including the 1975 assassination attempt on Christian Democratic leader Bernardo Leighton in Rome. It also highlights how Chile subsequently served as a safe haven and operational base for Italian neo-fascist fugitives seeking refuge from domestic prosecution during the strategy of tension.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
