The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has recently attracted re¬newed scholarly attention, alongside studies on the Bandung Conference and Afro-Asian solidarities. Yet NAM is often portrayed as a predominantly male arena, while women’s participation and gendered discourses remain underexplored. Drawing on research on Yugoslavia’s transnational links with the Global South, this article examines early connections between Yugoslav and non-aligned women’s organizations from the mid-1950s to mid-1960s. Using the journal «Žena u borbi»/«Žena», it analyses representations of encounters with African and Asian women and expressions of Yugoslav women’s solidarity. It argues that these narratives shaped transnational gender imaginaries, combining socialist feminism, developmentalism, and ambiguous racialized hierarchies.
