Corral’s poem «De las pinturas de Guido Reni» is a translation of an epigram by Urban VIII («Ut trahit, ut retinet…»), which should be examined within the broader framework of a larger project and of the relationship between poetry and the visual arts. To this end, after introducing the three protagonists (Guido Reni, the pope, and Gabriel de Corral) and the connections between them, this article examines both the papal epigram in its original context (the project for the Pauline Chapel) and, more particularly, its Spanish version, with special attention to the changes introduced by Corral (along with an additional hypothesis as a bonus).

Abstract
Corral’s poem «De las pinturas de Guido Reni» is a translation of an epigram by Urban VIII («Ut trahit, ut retinet…»), which should be examined within the broader framework of a larger project and of the relationship between poetry and the visual arts. To this end, after introducing the three protagonists (Guido Reni, the pope, and Gabriel de Corral) and the connections between them, this article examines both the papal epigram in its original context (the project for the Pauline Chapel) and, more particularly, its Spanish version, with special attention to the changes introduced by Corral (along with an additional hypothesis as a bonus).I documenti in ARCA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
