This review examines Christian Coseru’s Perceiving Reality: Consciousness, Intentionality, and Cognition in Buddhist Philosophy, focusing on its attempt to bring classical Indian Buddhist epistemology into dialogue with contemporary phenomenology and philosophy of mind. Particular attention is given to Coseru’s treatment of perception, intentionality, naturalized epistemology, self-awareness, and the works of Dignāga, Dharmakīrti, Śāntarakṣita, and Kamalaśīla. The review assesses both the methodological significance of this cross-cultural philosophical project and some of its theoretical difficulties, especially concerning reflexive awareness and the subject-object structure of experience.
