One of the central questions in Golden Age political theory is the figure of the ambassadress, which is examined in this study in three sections: after reviewing the debate concerning the role of women in the diplomatic sphere, the article analyzes the ideas put forward by Vera y Zúñiga (El embajador, 1620) and Benavente y Benavides (Advertencias para reyes, príncipes y embajadores, 1643).
