This contribution analyzes the evolution of the journalistic narrative of femicide in Italy, in light of the legislative and ethical innovations introduced in 2025. Despite the formal recognition of femicide as a specific criminal offense and the updating of journalistic ethics, the coverage of femicides in Italian news media still presents critical shortcomings. Through an analysis of journalistic practices such as de-contextualization, secondary victimization, xenophobic and political instrumentalization, linguistic resistance, and flawed iconographic choices, this article highlights how journalistic language still oscillates between adherence to old stereotypes and attempts to provide a narrative that is conscious of the patriarchal roots of femicide.

Abstract
This contribution analyzes the evolution of the journalistic narrative of femicide in Italy, in light of the legislative and ethical innovations introduced in 2025. Despite the formal recognition of femicide as a specific criminal offense and the updating of journalistic ethics, the coverage of femicides in Italian news media still presents critical shortcomings. Through an analysis of journalistic practices such as de-contextualization, secondary victimization, xenophobic and political instrumentalization, linguistic resistance, and flawed iconographic choices, this article highlights how journalistic language still oscillates between adherence to old stereotypes and attempts to provide a narrative that is conscious of the patriarchal roots of femicide.I documenti in ARCA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
