LETSdigit: A Digital Archive of Literature in Trieste. This contribution illustrates the research project. LETSdigit: A Digital Archive of Literature in Trieste, funded under “Dicolab. Cultura al digitale” subinvestment 1.1.6 “Training and Improvement of Digital Skills” of the PNRR M1C3. LETSdigit aims to design a digital archive dedicated to primary and secondary literature relating to the work of writers active in Trieste between the 19th and 20th centuries. Starting from the digital genetic edition of Umberto Saba’s Canzoniere 1900-1920 manuscript and the digital collections of objects in various formats, including sound material, preserved at the Trieste Civic Library, the project experiments with a methodological workflow that combines semi-automatic transcription and text encoding processes according to the XML/TEI standard, supported by the controlled use of LLMs. These tools are integrated into a methodological framework aimed at the critical supervision of automated encoding processes, with a view to transparency and verifiability. The project combines textual modelling with semantic annotation activities, through the identification of named entities and their linking to external resources according to the principles of Linked Open Data. This contribution illustrates the choices underlying the project’s architecture, presents the initial results, and outlines future development perspectives related to the integration of sound materials as structured components of the digital edition, in line with the most recent experimental work on oral archives and multimodal editions.
