Cola di Rienzo’s Garments from the Anonimo Romano to d’Annunzio · This study aims at analysing Cola di Rienzo’s garments and their function in the narrative of the Anonimo Romano, so as to highlight both their mimetic and diegetic functions. This analysis is conducted in parallel with the rewritings of Cola’s biography, from Muratori to d’Annunzio, to show whether, how, and why this rhetorical device of the ancient Cronica was understood, accepted, and possibly reused.
