This editorial introduces the special issue of "L'uomo nero" devoted to 'green' issues – understood as a broad spectrum of environmental and ecological research, including the representation and perception of nature and the landscape, environmental activism, our relationship with the more-than-human, and initiatives and projects relating to sustainability and biodiversity. The issue aims to bring together different time periods, from the early 20th century to the present day, to explore new theoretical and critical angles, and to adopt interdisciplinary perspectives, in order to foster a dialogue between the history and theory of the arts and the environmental humanities.

Abstract
