Forty years ago, in 1985, Miroslav Hroch's Social Preconditions of National Revival in Europe was published by Cambridge University Press. This volume, in turn, was published seventeen years after its previous, much more succinct German version. Compared to the latter, the English version had a far greater impact on the scholarly community, partly because it ended up almost unwillingly entering a debate on nations and nationalisms that was in full swing at the time. Forty years later, the authors and editor Fabio De Leonardis discuss the most important contribution of Hroch's volume to the field of national movement studies, and whether its insights are still relevant today.

Abstract
Forty years ago, in 1985, Miroslav Hroch's Social Preconditions of National Revival in Europe was published by Cambridge University Press. This volume, in turn, was published seventeen years after its previous, much more succinct German version. Compared to the latter, the English version had a far greater impact on the scholarly community, partly because it ended up almost unwillingly entering a debate on nations and nationalisms that was in full swing at the time. Forty years later, the authors and editor Fabio De Leonardis discuss the most important contribution of Hroch's volume to the field of national movement studies, and whether its insights are still relevant today.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
