This paper investigates two figures active at the court of Emperor Zhongzong 中 宗 during the Tang dynasty (618–907): Ye Jingneng 葉靜能 (?-710) and Zheng Pusi 鄭普思 (?-?). Using secular records and official Tang sources, it analyses how their activities were represented by both contemporaries and later historians, to illuminate the interplay between political power, religious belief, and the deployment of esoteric knowledge within the imperial court.
