Per una storia delle biblioteche delle accademie italiane?

This contribution offers a reflection on the history of academies and learned societies in Europe, with particular attention to the Italian context and to the role of academic libraries. Through an analysis of the principal publications and recent studies, it highlights how the presence and function of libraries have often been overlooked in historiography, despite their significance in scientific communication and in the preservation of bibliographical treasures. The recent attention devoted to these institutions—stimulated by initiatives such as the Rovereto conference and the publications of Alessandro Andreolli—opens up new research perspectives on the private and public nature of academic libraries, as well as on the need for a comparative and systematic study of their collections and functions.
