At Il. 14.398, Agathocles (FGrHist 472 F 10 = fr. 10 Montanari) read δρυσὶν ἰξοφόροισι rather than the formulaic expression δρυσὶν ὑψικόμοισιν (the reading of the manuscripts). Agathocles’ reading has been judged by several scholars to be an arbitrary conjecture; there are, nonetheless, reasons not to exclude the possibility of its being a genuinely ancient varia lectio. This would be consistent with what we otherwise know of Agathocles as a Homeric exegete (and, on this basis, comparison with FGrHist 472 F11 = fr.11 Montanari is necessary).

Abstract
This would be consistent with what we otherwise know of Agathocles as a Homeric exegete (and, on this basis, comparison with FGrHist 472 F11 = fr.11 Montanari is necessary).File in questo prodotto:
