The launch of artificial intelligence (AI) systems sparked heated discussions on the relationship between this new technology and copyright. This paper addresses the question of existing mechanisms that could facilitate copyright clearance by AI operators. The question is examined in light of the general debate on the exploitation of works online. It concludes with an analysis of possible solutions to the problems identified.
