Captain Alatriste’s novels are a clear rewri-ting of the pattern of the lives of soldiers of the Golden Age, a subject that is examined in this work: together with some evidence of this filiation, the double autobiographical scheme of the story is defined, the formal and thematic changes are analyzed, and finally other ornamental ingredients are commented on. By doing so, this paper tries to explain the new aesthetic and ethical commitment of this contemporary rewriting.
