This paper is dedicated to analysing the Latin-vernacular Italian grammar contained in a 15th-century manuscript produced in the area of Piacenza and intended for schoolbased learning. The first part of the study presents the object of the analysis and the broader context it emerged from. The second part focuses on a linguistic study of its vernacular Italian. Indeed, even if a northern influence is clearly distinguishable, this investigation allows a more precise localisation of the text. Eventually, a critical edition of the grammar is offered.

Abstract

This paper is dedicated to analysing the Latin-vernacular Italian grammar contained in a 15th-century manuscript produced in the area of Piacenza and intended for schoolbased learning. The first part of the study presents the object of the analysis and the broader context it emerged from. The second part focuses on a linguistic study of its vernacular Italian. Indeed, even if a northern influence is clearly distinguishable, this investigation allows a more precise localisation of the text. Eventually, a critical edition of the grammar is offered.
