Suggestions for wartime. Il contributo dei Musei americani alle attività della Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives sub-Commission

This article is an extract from the longer paper *International Measures for Art in Wartime: Beyond the Activities of the Roberts Commission and Kunstschutz, Restitutions and Exhibition Dynamics*, which the author will present at the International Congress *The Impact of the Civil War on the Development of Museums* – Barcelona, 25–27 February 2026. The space allocated to this contribution does not allow for a comprehensive treatment of the topics covered in the report; it has therefore been decided to focus on the findings of the most recent research, aimed at clarifying the role of American museums in cultural diplomacy and educational activities that preceded the effective operation of the Allied Military Government (AMG), including the Civil Affairs Section and the officers of the Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives Sub-commission, known by the acronym MFA&A.
