"Passeggiando con Giovanni tra centro e periferia"

Intended as a tribute to beloved professor Giovanni Giuriati, my article details the activities of the Bîrûn masterclass in Ottoman art music which was held, between 2012 and 2023, in collaboration between the Cini Foundation's Intercultural Institute of Comparative Music Studies and the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage at Ca' Foscari University in Venice. The Bîrûn project was made possible thanks to a Trio: Kudsi Erguner, artistic director and ney flute soloist; Giovanni Giuriati, director; and Giovanni De Zorzi, professor of ethnomusicology at the DFBC of Ca' Foscari and ney flute player. The article examines the name of the project and, year by year, the study days, the weeks of masterclasses in residence, the CD books recorded, the concerts performed and, in recent years, the videos made of the individual concerts, now on YouTube.
