Philosophical Contemplation and the Project of Deep Philosophy

This article explores the nature of Philosophical Contemplation, focusing on Ran Lahav’s innovative approach of «Deep Philosophy». Internationally active in the field of Philosophical Counseling since the early 1990s, Lahav’s research now provides new insights for the ongoing debate on the meaning and boundaries of Philosophical Counseling and Practice. In §1 of this paper, Lahav introduces the nature and purpose of Philosophical Contemplation, weaving together autobiographical elements, theoretical considerations, and reflections about notable historical thinkers. In §2, Annalisa Rossi interviews Lahav on the development of Deep Philosophy and the factors that shaped it. The interview explores the relationship between contemplation and meditation, the role of philosophical texts in contemplation, and the key skills, concepts, and metaphors involved in Philosophical Contemplation.
