Storia culturale e storia regionale: un binomio fertile

The series "The Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol Region in the 20th Century" of Museo Storico del Trentino was recently completed with a volume on the expressions and forms of cultural Identity. It is part of a broader historiographical effort aimed at making it easier for the region's inhabitants to feel at home by historizising the ethnic and ideological divisions that emerged during the 19th century, and which still permeate several aspects of regional politics. The essay discusses the contribution of disciplines such as museology, ethnography, anthropology, social psychology, literature, and musicology to the historical understanding of the region and highlights the additional contribution that critical geography and conceptual history can offer.
