This paper explores the travel writing by four women writers from modern and contemporary China. Drawing from the concepts of gendered mobility and kinship,I analyse their representation of both human and natural landscapes from a subjective perspective, one that, in dialogue with the natural and social environment, becomes intersubjective. In this intersubjective space, the observer and the observed share a common fate and emotional experience. Rich and diverse in historical, ethnic, natural and social dimensions, China’s landscape – viewed through the lens of women’s autobiographical and travel narratives – emerges as a boundless repository of stories and emotions that unite humanity and nature.
