Dal Museo Nani a Roma. Un’iscrizione greca di Epidauro ritrovata

The article reports the rediscovery of an ancient Greek inscription (IG IV², 1 678), now built into the wall of the church of Nostra Signora del Sacro Cuore, in the centre of Rome (Corso Rinascimento / Piazza Navona). Unearthed at Epidaurus by Antonio Nani in 1703 and taken to Venice in 1705, the inscription remained in the Nani Museum until at least 1815. Its identification in Rome offers an opportunity to reassess its value as a historical source and to shed new light on the later stages of the dispersal of this celebrated Venetian antiquarian collection.
