The article discusses the obscure Hebrew word yiqqāpṣûn. Firstly, it will address its context within the Book of Job. Secondly, the main past interpretations and proposals will be taken into consideration. This verb will be then explained through the Syriac translation of the passage. This will be further supported by a comparison with cognate Ethiopic lexemes and, especially, with Sabaic hqfḍn, which is only attested in al-Miʿsāl 6 and has not so far received a definite interpretation. Consequently, Hebrew yiqqāpṣûn will be understood as "they will be crushed".
