Buonaiuti e il modernismo. Una rilettura

The article proposes a brief and schematic reinterpretation of the relationship between Ernesto Buonaiuti and modernism according to the criteria of historical research. Faced with the complexity of the figure and work of the main exponent of Catholic modernism in Italy, some questions are indicated on which the research will have to go deeper than what is already known: the overall reconstruction of Buonaiuti's biography, some questions of chronology regarding the modernist crisis, the criteria of Buonaiuti's religious reformism, the history of the Roman modernist group, Buonaiuti's attitude towards ecumenism and his relations with other Christian Churches, Buonaiuti's self-understanding of modernism.
