The trio sonatas by Giuseppe Tartini (1692-1770) are a body of 37 pieces that make the author the most important composer of his generation for this type of repertoire. It is a poorly studied and executed corpus, not available in a modern edition. This chapter offers a report on the current knowledge of the repertoire and an over-view of the environments in which the sonatas probably found their dissemination and fruition. Subsequently, a description of the main copyist involved in writing the manuscripts is proposed, paying particular attention to their chronological and geo-graphical context. Finally, the description of the main sources is discussed.
