Whilst SME policies seldom consider craftsmanship specifically, those aimed at its conservation and promotion as a set of traditions and/or as cultural heritage often overlook the business and market dimensions of such enterprises. Based on a comparison of those two fields among six case studies, corrisponding to three urban scales between Veneto (Italy) and Normandy (France), our contribution identifies actors involved as well as policy instruments used with reference to craftsmanship.
