Faced with the sudden changes in the geopolitical balances of a rapidly evolving world, the article sets out to investigate what intersections between golden powers and antitrust would allow industrial policy and competition protection actions to move in synergy, mov-ing beyond the idea that they are irreconcilable opposite poles. After recalling the origin of the ontological divergence in their relationship, it argues that the dichotomy can be over-come if industrial policy is conceived in evolutionary terms. The paper focuses on the re-newed industrial strategy proposed by the European Commission, which highlights the need to initiate a dialogue between horizontal enterprise policies and competition protec-tion. Lastly, having clarified that the dichotomy between industrial and antitrust policy is evident at the national level in the intertwining of golden power and merger competition law, it becomes necessary to consider certain misalignments between the two disciplines mentioned above, proposing a rethinking of the exercise of state prerogatives.
