The present article studies the semantization process of two notions for ‘crisis’ in the Korean language: the Sinokorean 危機 wigi and the native Korean term 고비 kobi, attested for the first time in the XVth century sources. Attention is mostly given to the native Korean term, through its historical reconstruction, regional lexical variants, and usage in Contemporary Korean.

Abstract
