The article looks into the relationship between ideology and ontology in the works of Antonio Rosmini, particularly in relation to the influence, in the matter, of the Scotist philosophy of the Observant Franciscan Carlo Giuseppe Bignamini from San Fiorano (1723-1781). Rosmini adopts a language, and a series of issues, which are typical of sensism, but also of eighteenth century Scholasticism, while reinterpreting their meaning in light of a conception of thought as a manifestation of being. The idea of being is, therefore, being itself insofar as it is manifest, and not a mere psychologistic content of the human intellect. Moreover, being manifests itself by its very nature. That it is evident is undeniable because being is and cannot not be. The univocity of being is, therefore, not merely a logical-ideological property, as it is for Bignamini, but also an ontological property that must be distinguished from the pantheistic univocism of Spinoza and Hegel.
