Mapping Emotions, Rewriting Geographies: Jewish MENA Migrations Reimagined

Introduction to the FOCUS issue, (E)motional Maps: Affective Geographies among Jewish Migrants from North Africa and the Middle East. The Issue explores the emotional dimensions of Jewish migration from the MENA lands (and Ethiopia) through affective and spatial lenses. It is situated within a constellation of recent interdisciplinary turns—not only the “emotional turn” but also the “spatial turn” and the “mobilities turn.” Drawing on these frameworks, the contributors to this issue reconsider how migration stories are narrated, remembered, and silenced, and how these processes are spatialized through texts, artworks, embodied memory, and performance.
