This article investigates the identity role that the sanctuary located at Fornace and its titular deity Altno/ Altino played in the pre-Roman settlement of Altinum. It also examines the timing and causes of the change of dedication in the Roman times, through the introduction of the cult of Iuppiter (Altinas?). These changes occurred when new architectural arrangements took place, whose functions are interpreted in an attempt to outline the features of the ancient liturgical life of the sanctuary.
