Un dossier di vedute di Corfù (1633) tra i disegni di Raffaele Monanni

Raffaele Monanni's depictions of Corfu offer fresh views of the city of Corfù and its fortress, captured during his travels in the early months of 1633. These drawings are part of a large body of work generally attributed to the engineer, yet they present several challenges because the circumstances of their creation remain unknown. Monanni seems to have been active almost exclusively on the island of Crete. Therefore, this essay analyzes the Corfu drawings in relation to Monanni's drawings housed in Venice (at the Marciana Library and the State Archives) to confirm their attribution. Additionally, with the aid of some newly discovered documents, the essay explores these drawings within the broader context of his work.

Le vedute di Corfù di Raffele Monanni presentano nuove prospettive della città e della fortezza di Corfù ritratta nel corso di un viaggio nei primi mesi del 1633. I disegni appartengono a un vasto corpus grafico attribuito all’ingegnere e tuttavia pongono vari problemi, dal momento che non si conoscono le circostanze in cui vennero realizzati. Il loro autore risulta attivo quasi esclusivamente sull’isola di Creta. Il saggio esamina quindi i disegni di Corfù in rapporto alla vasta produzione grafica di Monanni conservata a Venezia (Biblioteca Marciana e Archivio di Stato) per verificarne l’attribuzione e, con l’apporto di qualche nuovo documento, li esamina nel contesto della sua attività.
