This article provides a preliminary presentation of two newly discovered stone stelae from the tophet of the Phoenician-Punic and Roman site of Bithia (Domus de Maria, South Sardinia). One stele aligns typologically and iconographically with examples from other Mediterranean tophet sites, such as Motya and Sulcis, while the second exhibits unique iconographic elements, offering fresh insights into Bithia’s ritual landscape. These findings strongly support the identification of the sacred area of Su Cardolinu as the tophet of Bithia and open new avenues for exploring the site’s ritual complexity and artisan traditions.

Abstract
This article provides a preliminary presentation of two newly discovered stone stelae from the tophet of the Phoenician-Punic and Roman site of Bithia (Domus de Maria, South Sardinia). One stele aligns typologically and iconographically with examples from other Mediterranean tophet sites, such as Motya and Sulcis, while the second exhibits unique iconographic elements, offering fresh insights into Bithia’s ritual landscape. These findings strongly support the identification of the sacred area of Su Cardolinu as the tophet of Bithia and open new avenues for exploring the site’s ritual complexity and artisan traditions.File in questo prodotto:
