This study critically examines the impact of the Framework Law on Craftsmanship in Italy, with particular attention to its implications for the sector’s development and the attractiveness of the profession for younger generations. Through an in-depth analysis of statistical data, legislation, its practical consequences, and existing literature, the research assesses whether the provisions and constraints imposed by the law remain adequate for the current socio-economic context or whether, on the contrary, they represent an obstacle to the growth and innovation of artisanal enterprises. The study adopts a mixed methodological approach, combining a documentary analysis of the legislation with qualitative interviews with key industry stakeholders. The findings suggest that, while the law has historically played a fundamental role in defining, protecting, and promoting the identity of Italian craftsmanship, certain aspects may now paradoxically hinder the sector’s adaptation to changing market conditions, limiting business growth, discouraging the establishment of new artisanal enterprises, and slowing the adoption of innovative practices. The study concludes by proposing a reflection on the possibility of a legislative revision capable of balancing the protection of artisanal tradition with the need for flexibility and innovation required by the current economic context, while also enhancing the sector’s competitiveness and its ability to attract new generations of entrepreneurs.
