The aim of this study was to investigate the attitudes of language students, pre-service teachers enrolled in a Master’s programme with a teaching-oriented curriculum, towards an optional course in educational research. Adapting the Attitude Towards Educational Research Scale (Papanastasiou, 2005), we compared students’ attitudes towards studying and using educational research, as well as their positive and negative perceptions, between those attending lectures and tutorials versus those participating in practical workshops. T-tests were used to analyse the data collected through self-administered questionnaires during lectures on educational research methods. The results show that students who participated in research workshops had more positive attitudes than their peers without such experience, and greater awareness of the importance of educational research in their studies and future careers.
